5 Health Tips For DJs
Let’s face it, the life of a DJ is not necessarily conducive to a healthy lifestyle. It is filled with many traps such as nightclubs, erratic sleep, late meals,  wedding food, and lots of excess. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t be healthy despite them.  Here are some tips to help you live a healthier DJ life.

Start Early
Workout when you wake up before you start social media. So many of us are addicted to our social accounts that we get sucked into a portal of lost time. Before we know it, our workout time is gone. You need an undistracted mind to get the most out of your workouts. Put your phone in a different room or put it airplane mode so you can only use it to listen to music. For one full hour, just focus on what you are doing and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing.

Moderation
Often times you will be tempted with things such as free food and drinks while your work. Who doesn’t love free stuff, right?  Sometimes you have to limit yourself or say “No” completely.  It is not going to be easy, but you will feel the benefits in your body. Start slow by cutting back on one or 2 things at a time and go from there. If you usually have 2 drinks while you work, try doing one or none. If you are going to eat the wedding meal, skip the cake. If you drink soda, try water instead. Set goals and tell the people around you who can help you stay on track.

Mix Things Up
You are a DJ, you should know all about the value of switching things up. With your workouts, it is the same concept. Mix days of cardio work and days of weight lifting to get the full benefits of both types of workouts. If you are going to do them on the same day, consider doing one in the morning and one at night.

Avoid Leg Day on Gig Night
If you are DJing at night and you know you are going to be standing for a long time, those are the days you will want to do upper body workouts. A good upper body routine will still leave you able to handle your gig, but an intense leg routine or hard cardio might have people asking if they are serving your legs for dinner because they will feel like linguini.

Forget About 4th Meal
It is the most dangerous trap for all DJs. You get out of the club or gig and you see that 24 hr Del Taco or (Insert your restaurant of choice). The temptation is always there, but YOU MUST FIGHT IT. If you must eat something consider having a low sugar protein bar before or after your gig to help with the cravings. It will make you feel fuller longer while you work without a sugar crash.

Remember it is not about finding time to get healthy, It is about making the time to get healthy.
